Showdown International Dressage

Do you enjoy riding and communicating with your horse? If so, then dressage is for you.

Dressage Tests

Here at Showdown International we are keen to make sure we provide exciting competitions for all levels. We run a full range of our own tests as well as a range of British Eventing tests.

Where can I ride?

All classes can be ridden on grass or a surface.

Arena Sizes

  • Showdown International and Eventer tests (BE) are designed for a 20m x 40m arena.
  • Showdown International Long Arena tests are designed for a 20m x 60m arena.
  • Showdown International Freestyle tests are designed for either a 20m x 60m or a 20m x 40m arena.

Judging

Tests will be judged by our panel of judges

Side Saddle Classes

  • Side saddle competition - these classes are open to any competitor riding side saddle.
  • Points from these classes count towards our leagues.
  • However, in order to win the Side Saddle League as champion or reserve champion at the end of the series, riders must be members of or join the Side Saddle Association.

Disabled & Para Rider Series Classes

  1. All Disabled & Para Rider Series classes are open to all grades and classifications of rider, as well as ungraded and unclassified riders.
  2. We will ask for your grading or classification (if you have one) at point of entry - this will help us to gauge interest and tailor more classes in the future to different grades and classifications as well as for ungraded and unclassified riders.
  3. You are allowed a caller for the dressage tests.
  4. Disabled & Para Rider Series Walk and Walk Trot Ridden classes can be solo or lead rein.
  5. Para and Disabled riders are only expected to ride at the levels they are comfortable at as they may not be able to physically ride at the next level up.
  6. Points from these classes count towards our leagues.

Long Lining Dressage Classes

All handlers should wear a correctly secured British Standard Skull Cap/Riding Hat that meets current Safety Standards.

Jump for Joy Freeform Classes

Jump for Joy Freeform Dressage Tests are for horses and ponies with jumping experience and can be ridden with or without music. These tests are a cross between Prix Caprilli and Freestyle tests.

These tests are to be videoed in the same was as a more traditional dressage test (i.e. from C).

To be ridden in snaffle bridle.

The halt should be a straight on dressage halt, not a side on halt as in showing.

WALK TROT: Maximum height of fences are 60cm cross poles. There is no minimum height. Jumps should be performed in trot.

WALK TROT CANTER: Maximum height of fences are 85cm straight bar. Cross poles are allowed. Minimum fence height is 40cm.  Jumps may be performed in trot or canter.

Fences can be jumped in any order.

All trot work will be performed rising.

Refusals and knock-downs will be penalised with appropriate deduction of marks. Knock-down penalty marks will be applied at the judge's discretion.

💥💥💥💥💥IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT  04/10/20💥💥💥💥💥

As promised, we continually strive to improve our platform. We have been discussing at length today changes we wish to make and we have made the following decision.

With immediate effect if you have previously scored 70% or more in our Intro dressage classes, then in order to enter Intro this month you MUST enter the open section.

Moving forwards if you score over 70% in Intro Restricted you will need to move to Intro Open the following month.

ALL other classes remain open to all riders as before for October.

New entrants or new horses are welcome in the restricted section. If you have already entered and are new you have automatically been entered into the restricted section.

If you are unsure of what section to enter, please message us as we have a spreadsheet of previous scores!

Thank you

September 2020 entries onwards…

Horse and rider combinations are not permitted to enter a class more than one level below their highest entry in any class up to Medium, e.g. a horse and rider combination competing at Novice level is not permitted to enter an Intro or Intro Plus class etc.

Showdown International reserves the right to refuse an entry that breaches this rule.

Para and Disabled riders are only expected to ride at the levels they are comfortable at as they may not be able to physically ride at the next level up.

Beginner riders are not expected to move up until they feel truly confident.

Yoga for Horses Suppleness Tests are open to all as they do not fall into the standard levels.
