I am a Dressage and Show rider/producer from Cambridge, New Zealand. I work full time with horses and particularly enjoy training young horses and young riders to reach their full potential.
I recently won the Medium Dressage Championship at our NZ Horse of the year Show in March which we were lucky enough to have right before Covid 19 took over.
Dressage is something I am very passionate about & have successfully trained and competed horses up to Small Tour.
I think this online concept is a fantastic idea in our current ever changing circumstances and look forward to judging.
I have been a list 5 BD judge for 15 years. I have competed up to PSG and gained a 63% in PSG Freestyle before my mare had to retire. We qualified for Regionals in Advanced Medium Freestyle.
I have ridden all Grand Prix movements on schoolmasters at Laura Fry's and Vicky Thompson's, and have trained with John Lasseter, Adam Kemp, the late Cyril Johnson, and Tony Dampier.
I have put together freestyle music and plans for all levels of rider up to Grand Prix and for riding club events and para riders.
In my other life, I used to teach maths. I now am a church organist and sing in Bury Church choir.
I am the leading producer and breeder of Show and Sport Horses in Ireland. To date. I have produced Supreme RDS Champions, Breeders Champion, RDS Broodmare Champion, Working Hunter Champion, and numerous other RDS Championships, along with county show championships and Future Event Horse Champions. Following which, my horses have successfully competed worldwide.
I am also the flatwork specialist at Henry de Bromhead Racing.
In my spare time I teach and love giving advice and confidence to young riders coming up through the ranks.
My involvement with horses began in 1989 in Auckland New Zealand where we purchased and showed a couple of young thoroughbreds. Our family moved to QLD Australia in 1996 where our two young sons took up showing throughout QLD and NSW with rider class wins at Brisbane Royal and EA QLD First Ridden Pony of the Year Title. During this time I took the lead for lead rein with our youngest son and began showing our horses in hand with much success, including wins at Brisbane and Toowoomba Royal shows and many Supreme lead titles at AG shows. I continue to show and help prepare our horses here in New Zealand including showing our young stock. We breed welsh ponies and riding ponies from our resident stallion Rosedale Our Secret.
My judging career began in 2013 and I have been fortunate to judge all over Australia and New Zealand at Agricultural and Royal Shows including Toowoomba Royal and Auckland Royal Easter Show. While in Australia I had the following judges qualifications: EA QLD - State Level Judge, Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Shows – State Panel Judge, APSB QLD – Panel Judge, Riding Pony Stud Book Australia QLD – State Panel Judge, Australian Saddle Pony Association – Panel Judge.
My NZ qualifications are: NZSHC - Royal/National Level Judge, The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of New Zealand – Panel Judge, Royal A&P Society NZ – Level 3 Judge
Horses have been in my life for as long as I can remember and over the years I have dabbled in most of the disciplines but my main love is showing. All our family have been or still are involved in showing and we have bred and produced Royal show and Horse Of The Year winners for both ourselves and clients.
We spent 20+ years competing and judging in Australia where I was a qualified Equestrian Australia- National Show Horse judge, Australian Riding Pony judge and Arabian judge. 2016 we moved back to New Zealand where we have continued to compete and judge, I am a qualified New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society judge, New Zealand Welsh Pony and Cob Society Judge and I continue to be a Show Horse Council of Australasia -Royal Judge.
Some of my judging appointment highlights would have be judging Sydney Royal and The 2013 Show Horse Council of Australasia Show Horse and Rider Championships.
A lifetime with horses from Pony Club, eventing, hunting, dressage and later showing has been my passion. My involvement with showing spans 40 years, encompassing breeding ponies, producing and judging. I have also been involved with Off the Track horses which my daughter has competed in to win National Titles in NZ. A couple of years ago I gained my Trainer's Licence and have played around with two mares both of which have saluted the judge. Velveteen was a reject from two previous trainers and with a total of nine starts with me she has had wins and placings seven times and now has a colt foal at foot. My partner and I have shares in four TB stallions standing at stud in New Zealand. One of those is the French stallion Reliable Man who shuttles between continents. The remaining three are resident stallions in NZ.
My judging has taken me to South Africa and Australia, which I have just returned from judging but sadly due to Covid 19 two more judging appointments in Australia are on hold. Previously I was on the Royal Agricultural Judges International list and was a Tutor judge, however I am currently on the International List for Show Horse Council of Australasia. I have bred pony of the year winners and most of the OTT horses I have sold are winning champion hack classes here. My daughter due to work and family isn't competitive these days however she is an ambassador for the International Race Horse retraining programme, those horses are ex Hong Kong horses that are re-educated and readied for new homes. I have travelled extensively throughout the UK visiting Royal Windsor, Badminton, Blair Castle HT, Riding Pony and Thoroughbred Studs and I'm excited to be a part of this initiative and look forward to seeing you all.
